PhET Team Member, Trish Loeblein, Receives American Chemistry Society 2013 ACS Colorado High School Teaching Award!
We’re excited to announce our very own Trish Loeblein, PhET K-12 Specialist, was honored to receive the ACS 2013 Colorado High School Teaching Award.
Trish has taught all levels of science including chemistry, physics and math, including many AP courses. Trish was recognized because she “brings an enormous energy to the classroom” and “goes out of her way to teach difficult concepts in a more tangible manner, a skill which is necessary for challenging chemistry and physics courses.”
In a new report by the Software & Information Industry Association, “Guide to the Use of Open Educational Resources in K-12 and Postsecondary Education,” open educational resources, like PhET are “here to stay.” This white paper from the SIIA’s Education Division’s working group was written to provide an increased understanding of OER’s impact and usage in schools.
We’re excited to announce that we have been chosen as the 2nd Place Winner in the 2012 SIGOL Online Learning Awards. This award recognizes innovative educators worldwide for their leadership and creativity in providing e-learning opportunities for elementary through university students. As part of the award, come see us at ISTE 2012 June 24-27th in San Diego, CA.
Last week, as part of being a Tech Award laureate, the Tech Awards program made a video to help summarize the PhET project and some of its goals. Award-winning Hollywood director Sandy Smolan and his team produced the video. It’s only 90 seconds, so it doesn’t cover all aspects of PhET, but we like the final product! Thanks Sandy and team.
In addition, the Tech Museum has released this video showing the highlights of the black-tie gala and the Tech Awards laureates.
Greetings everyone from San Jose where Kathy Perkins, our director, is at the week long event of The Tech Awards 2011 where we are learning how to further our quest to advance science literacy and education worldwide.
